Should couriers get a day off in a blizzard? People argue, businesses respond
"Today you can walk to the store yourself."

On January 9, Minsk found itself under a powerful blizzard: city streets were covered in snow, communal services are still battling the aftermath, and traffic is complicated. Meanwhile, many delivery services continue to operate, with couriers hitting their routes — on foot, by bike, and by car.
People on social media are asking to have mercy on couriers and cancel orders for at least a day.
"Have mercy on couriers," "Today you can walk to the store yourself," "It's already hard for them — let's give them a day off," Minsk residents write on Threads.

Against the backdrop of such messages, some establishments are indeed suspending delivery — temporarily switching only to self-pickup.
For instance, Sushi House consulted its subscribers on social media: should couriers get a day off? Almost all commentators wrote either yes, definitely, or if they were to keep working, then the payment should be increased 2-3 times. The establishment chose the first option, which caused a wave of approval.

Fusion Sushi wrote that they sent their couriers home and are working on self-pickup, offering a discount to those who pick up their order themselves. Picpizza.by decided not to work at all.

However, the reaction to the calls to "not order" was mixed.
"For you — care, but for the courier — less money," "A disservice. If you don't want to, don't order, but don't negate someone else's work," "An order with good tips is also support," users write.

Couriers themselves or their relatives join the comments. "I work as a courier for Yandex. You schedule your shifts a week in advance, which can only be canceled later with a penalty," writes a man, adding that you won't earn more in such weather: "all orders are short and the progress is slow."
A woman, whose son works as a courier, shares that he spent more on gas than he earned during his shift.

Someone writes that they themselves refused delivery and made soup from what they had, others — for the first time checked the "self-pickup" box, and someone, on the contrary — placed an order and left double tips.
