«This is the kind of people we have». A Belarusian cleared a parking spot, but it was immediately taken
The man shared his story on social media. He recounted that he personally cleared two parking spots from snow in the yard, but he was not satisfied with the consequences. The story sparked a heated debate on social media, BGmedia noted .
«I cleared two spots today. I thought, let it be — I don't mind. There was one spot not cleared. But instead of clearing a spot for himself, a person drove into the already cleared one. This is the kind of people we have,» says the video's author.
The video and post caused a heated discussion: Belarusians divided into two camps.
Some commentators believed that the author himself was to blame for the situation because parking in the yard is common property:
«A clear spot is considered yours as long as your car is in it. Once you leave, the spot is no longer yours.»
«He says he doesn't mind, but he himself filmed a video. This is the kind of people we have.»
«How naive do you have to be to clear a spot and expect that only you will park there?»
«I had the same situation: I cleared around my car and the adjacent one. In the end, I came back — there was nowhere to park. It's simply offensive.»
What the law says about parking in yards
Parking in residential areas in Belarus is common and free.
Clearing snow does not grant ownership rights to a specific spot — any driver can occupy it.
Moreover, clearing snow is now not a right, but an obligation. According to new rules, individuals and organizations are obliged to clear snow around their vehicles in residential areas within a one-meter radius.
