«My world has perished, my dear husband Aleksei Lazarau. At the beginning of 2025, he returned to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and honorably defended the sky. He is and was an excellent son of Belarusian land. I admired and still admire his desire for a better world, in which we so wanted to create a large family», — she wrote.
Both Aleksei and Veranika joined the regiment named after Kastus Kalinouski. In March 2022, during the defense of Kyiv, the couple got married.
«You showed me true love, true friendship. You loved me with such care and attention that I began to love myself. You were everything, and now everything is gone. I await our meeting in a better world, my love. See you in dreams», — wrote Veranika.
Aleksei was 27 years old. He graduated from BSU. In November 2019, he was drafted into the armed forces, served as the commander of a portable anti-aircraft missile complex unit, and received the rank of junior sergeant. Both before and after the army, he was one of the organizers of the campaign «Education is more important» against the law that reduced deferments from the army for students.
In 2019, he attempted to become a deputy, running for parliament.
He actively participated in street protests against the 2020 election results, and assisted observers at polling stations in Minsk. Due to the threat of imprisonment, he left Belarus. He lived in Georgia, then moved to Ukraine, to Lviv.
When the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began, he enlisted as a volunteer.
Aleksei left the Ukrainian army but, as it turns out, returned.
The funeral will take place in Lviv.
