UN responded whether it is concerned about the emergence of Trump's Peace Council as a competitor to the organization
While the American president criticizes the organization for inaction and announces the creation of an alternative, the UN calls Trump's initiative amorphous and reminds him of respect for the territorial integrity of other states, including Greenland.

The United Nations, despite criticism from the US president, will continue to be guided by its Charter, unafraid of the emergence of a possible alternative. This was stated to journalists by the Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, reports Ukrinform.
"We have made it clear that we are making every effort to improve the work of the UN so that it effectively serves all stakeholders," Haq noted.
According to the official, the UN will continue to "work tirelessly for peace with full respect for international law and make comprehensive efforts to address the root causes of conflicts to provide sustainable solutions for achieving peace."
Regarding Trump's announced Peace Council, he noted that as of now, it is an amorphous structure – "in terms of what it will do."
The Deputy Spokesman recalled that numerous organizations, regional structures, and defense alliances have coexisted with the UN for 80 years.
At the same time, he pointed out that the decision to create a Peace Council to work in Gaza was approved by the UN Security Council. "And we, of course, continue to adhere to this resolution," Haq said. "What will happen in the future? We'll see."
He emphasized that the UN is not concerned about the emergence of new organizations and operates in accordance with its program and Charter. The organization has "a rich history of achievements and a broad set of mandated tasks that we constantly fulfill," the Deputy Spokesman noted.
Regarding Trump's statements about Greenland, Haq emphasized: "We have made it clear that we expect all states to uphold the UN Charter, which, of course, enshrines respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states, and we will continue to insist on this."
He also informed that Secretary-General António Guterres did not go to Davos due to illness and is working remotely.
Earlier, Trump stated that the Peace Council he created could in the future replace the United Nations, which the US president criticized for its ineffectiveness in stopping wars.
