An instruction has been published in Spain, according to which passports of Belarusian citizens residing in the country can be recognized as valid even after their expiration date — without the need to obtain a registration certificate (cédula de inscripción). This was announced by the press service of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.

This was the result of agreements between the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the Spanish authorities. On June 20, 2025, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed this with the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and in January 2026, with the support of other ministries, these agreements were put into effect.
On January 19, Dzianis Kuchynski, diplomatic advisor to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, visited Madrid and held a meeting with the State Secretary of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diego Martínez Belío.

During the meeting, the parties outlined key areas of cooperation with the democratic forces of Belarus, touched upon current international and humanitarian issues, the situation with political prisoners, and the sanctions policy of the European Union and Spain regarding the Lukashenka regime.
A separate topic of the meeting was the issue of opening a Mission of the Democratic Forces of Belarus in Madrid, which could become an important center for coordinating the activities of the Belarusian representation and supporting Belarusians in Spain.
Dzianis Kuchynski handed over to the State Secretary a document outlining existing problems and ways to solve them, which was prepared based on proposals from Belarusians in Spain.
