Signatures are being collected in Vilnius against the closure of the Skaryna Belarusian Gymnasium
A reform in the school system could lead to the closure of the only Belarusian-language gymnasium in the capital of Lithuania, named after Francysk Skaryna. The Association of Belarusian Parents of Lithuania asks for your signature to preserve education in the native language.

The reason for this is the Vilnius authorities' plans to reform the school network, which could jeopardize the existence of the city's only Belarusian-language educational institution — the Francysk Skaryna Vilnius Gymnasium.
The essence of the proposed changes is that children of foreigners arriving in the country would be sent exclusively to Lithuanian-language schools. According to the initiators of the reform, this should accelerate the integration of migrants.
However, parents and public activists fear that the ban on admitting new students without Lithuanian citizenship will lead to the disappearance of Belarusian classes and the eventual closure of the gymnasium.
On January 28, a meeting of the Vilnius City Council will take place, at which amendments to the Admission Procedure to general education schools of the city of Vilnius may be adopted. In this case, citizens of other countries with temporary and permanent residence permits will only be able to send their children to primary schools with Lithuanian as the language of instruction.
In this regard, an appeal has been prepared to the Vilnius City Council with a request to allow Belarusian children to retain the choice – to go to schools with Lithuanian as the language of education or to study in Belarusian at the Skaryna Gymnasium.
The association calls for supporting this initiative and leaving your signature via the link (the full text of the appeal can also be found here).
