Plaque for the Belarusian Separate Battalion in Kaunas to be installed on March 25
The installation of a plaque for the Belarusian Separate Battalion in Kaunas, Lithuania, has been postponed until Freedom Day, writes racyja.com.
As of January 26, approximately 2800 out of 3900 necessary euros have been collected, — said Veronika Vyhonskaya, director of the Polyglot language organization, which represents the Belarusian community of Kaunas:
— We applied for additional funding from the Department of National Minorities. We are awaiting their decision regarding co-financing us. And we also continue to collect funds. Donations keep coming in, despite the fact that we barely advertise and are waiting for a decision. Someone still continues to donate small amounts. But this greatly supports us and reminds us that this cause is important.

The Belarusian Separate Battalion was stationed in 1920–1921 in the Šančiai barracks in Kaunas and fought for the independence of the Republic of Lithuania, strengthening its defense in battles against the Bolsheviks and Poles. 51 Belarusian volunteers were awarded the Cross of Vytis — Lithuania's highest military decoration — for courage and valor.
