The first week of February will be very frosty

Forecaster Dmitry Ryabov warned on ONT air that the first week of February in the country will be very frosty. According to him, from February 2 to 8, temperatures will be 10-15 degrees lower than the climatic norm, and due to strong winds, the cold will be felt even more intensely.

February will start "harshly winter-like": at the beginning of the week, a powerful Scandinavian anticyclone will invade Belarus. It will bring dry but very cold weather without significant snowfalls, with clearings and sun. The wind will be predominantly north-easterly, gusty, and ice and black ice will persist.

On the night of Monday, February 2, temperatures may drop to -19…-29 °C, with daytime temperatures expected at -12…-17 °C. On Tuesday, February 3, severe frost will persist: -17…-25 °C at night, -9…-15 °C during the day, with gusty winds making the weather particularly piercing.

On Wednesday, February 4, the situation will gradually begin to change. The anticyclone will partially shield the country from the cold, but fogs and slippery roads will appear. The wind will shift to southerly and become weaker. Temperatures will vary greatly: at night in the southwest around -11 °C, in the northeast — up to -25 °C, during the day — from -12 °C in the north to -4 °C in the west.

Preliminary, on Thursday, February 5, a short "respite" is expected: frosts will weaken due to warm air masses from southwestern Europe. Snow and wet snow are possible, humidity will increase, and the risk of fogs and black ice will rise. At night it will be -8…-13 °C, during the day — -6…-12 °C.

On Friday, February 6, the weather will remain similar: precipitation of varying intensity, gusty winds now from an easterly direction, and a similar temperature background.

On the weekend, February 7-8, Belarus will be under the influence of an anticyclone from central Russia. The wind will be south-westerly, gusty, with a low probability of precipitation. Nighttime temperatures will be around -8…-15 °C, during the day on Saturday it will be -3…-9 °C, and on Sunday frosts will intensify again to -6…-12 °C.
