A new laboratory for structural and functional protein biology has started operating at the Belarusian State University's Faculty of Biology. Representatives of state bodies, the scientific community, and the university leadership took part in the grand opening. Also present was Iryna Abelskaya, head of the Republican Clinical Medical Center and senator — Kolya Lukashenka's mother, who is studying at this very faculty.

This laboratory is declared as the only comprehensive platform in Belarus where a full cycle of protein research can be carried out: from its isolation to detailed study of its structure, properties, and functional interactions. During the opening, students of the Faculty of Biology presented the first results of their work with the new equipment.

The creation of the laboratory is linked to the need for modern training of students within the framework of a joint educational program between BSU and Peking University in the field of biotechnology. Students will work with unique equipment, study protein molecules with high precision, cultivate cells, synthesize protein in sterile conditions, and clone genes. The laboratory has an interdisciplinary character: microbiologists, biotechnologists, bioengineers, and biochemists will be able to work here.
