Yesterday's final match of the Olympic game day was calmly nearing its end, with Canada confidently beating Switzerland 5:1, when a terrible injury occurred to Swiss forward Kevin Fiala.

Tim Wilson was going for a hit, which initially didn't look dangerous. Fiala saw his opponent and was ready to respond, but he fell awkwardly with the Canadian and suffered a severe injury. Kevin couldn't move: his leg was frozen in one position, and doctors had to lift the player themselves, writes Championat.com.
The players of both teams, spectators, and referees were speechless — everyone silently watched what was happening. The Canadian team even skated onto the ice and supported the Swiss national team's forward.
Swiss head coach Patrick Fischer said after the match: "We haven't seen him yet. He went to the hospital. Obviously, his condition is not very good. A very, very tough moment for Kevin and the whole team."
Canadian defenseman Drew Doughty, who is Fiala's teammate, was stunned like everyone else and stated that he wants to see his friend as soon as possible: "I wanted to go over to him when he was lying on the ice. I told him something when they were carrying him off, and now I'm going to find him as soon as possible right now."
Tim Wilson also commented, whom many are now criticizing, though it's clear Tim didn't intend to injure his opponent: "These are the Olympic Games, I'm very sorry that he might not be able to continue playing. You never want to see a player get injured, especially in a tournament like this."
The Swiss Federation has already issued a statement: "Kevin Fiala was forced to leave the ice due to an injury three minutes before the end of the game. A medical examination revealed a leg injury that rules out his participation in the 2026 Olympic Games."
