The solemn opening ceremony of the XIV Winter Paralympic Games took place in the ancient amphitheater of the Italian city of Verona. Unlike the regular Olympic Games held earlier, Belarusian and Russian athletes were allowed to participate under state flags.

In protest against the full admission of delegations from aggressor countries to the competitions, some states refused to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Paralympics. Besides Ukraine, these include the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and about two dozen other countries. In total, more than 600 athletes from 55 countries will take part in the Paralympics, but only representatives from 28 states attended the opening ceremony.

The competitions will take place from March 7 to 15. Belarus is represented at the Paralympics in Italy by four skiers: Lidiya Loban, Valiantsina Biryla, Darya Fiadzkovich, and Raman Svirydzenka. Races with their participation are scheduled for March 10, 11, 14, and 15.
The last time the red-green flag was present at the opening of the Paralympics was in 2021 in Tokyo. Belarusian participants were not admitted to the Winter Games in Beijing in 2022, and at the Paralympics in Paris in 2024, they competed under a neutral flag.
