Zelenskyy Announced AFU Reform: Infantry Salaries to Rise to $9,000
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed the government and military command to significantly increase the financial provisions for servicemen. The army reform officially begins this June.

— "I have set the task to significantly increase financial provision, taking into account the principle of fairness, namely – combat missions on the front line, real combat and leadership experience, and the effectiveness of a serviceman must guarantee an increase in payments," Zelenskyy stated.
According to the announced formula, the minimum salary for rear-area positions will be no less than 30 thousand hryvnias (about 700 dollars).
For those in combat positions, the amounts will be several times higher. Special attention is paid to the command staff — combat sergeants and officers, whose payment levels will also be significantly increased.
The President of Ukraine separately highlighted the role of infantrymen, for whom special contracts will be introduced, and their payment amounts will range from 5.5 thousand to 9 thousand dollars.
Zelenskyy also announced a phased demobilization as early as 2026.
— "I have instructed to strengthen the contract system in the AFU in such a way that, by expanding the contract component, we can ensure specific terms of service and the possibility — starting this year — of gradual release from service for those previously mobilized, based on clear temporal criteria," he said.
