Belarusian Daria Verenich won her second award at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Cup stage, which is taking place in Baku.
On Saturday, May 2, the athlete became a medalist in the clubs exercise among seniors. She scored 28.350 points and took silver, narrowly losing only to Israeli Daniela Muniz (28.650). Third place went to Italian Sofia Raffaeli (28.200). A total of 52 gymnasts competed in this event. Verenich also showed the sixth best result in the ribbon exercise, and the day before, she won bronze in the hoop exercise. Another Belarusian, Anna Kamenshchikova, took 16th place with clubs and came ninth with the ribbon, according to BELTA.
The tournament in Baku also featured competitions in a new format — cross-battle among juniors, an analog of playoffs in team sports. Belarusian gymnasts Ksenia Bondarenko and Kira Babkevich stopped a step short of the podium: in the quarterfinals, they defeated Turkish gymnasts, but in the semifinals, they lost to the future champions from Russia. In the bronze medal match, the Belarusians lost to the duo from Israel. Awards in this discipline for seniors will be contested on May 3.
19-year-old Daria Verenich is one of the promising Belarusian gymnasts competing in the individual program. She hails from Gomel and is a member of the Belarusian national team.
Her achievements include medals from European Cup stages and consistent performances at major international competitions. Coaches note her expressiveness, the complexity of her routines, and good technique.
