Belarusians helped a young mother with disabilities renovate her dormitory room. Otherwise, the child would have been taken to an orphanage

Thanks to caring people, a little boy, born prematurely, will stay with his mother.

Almost a week ago, Belarusian Alyona Martynenka shared on social networks about the difficult situation a young mother, Nastassia, found herself in.

Nastassia is 22 years old, she grew up in an orphanage herself (and is not very adapted to life in the ordinary world), and has a visual impairment.

The girl became pregnant — and the child's father disappeared over the horizon when he found out about it. She gave birth prematurely. The boy was born weighing 2.6 kilograms and measuring 49 centimeters.

Everything happened so unexpectedly that Nastassia found herself in the 5th maternity hospital in Minsk without the things necessary for her and the baby. Alyona, through social networks, found many people who wanted to help and bring everything to the hospital.

It turned out, however, that a month ago, a group of women had already collected necessities for Nastassia — but the woman got confused and didn't take anything with her to the maternity hospital. Alyona notes that the young mother needs support and mentorship.

But the situation was complicated by the fact that the young mother lived in a dormitory — in one room with a neighbor. And the conditions there were not the best — especially for a child. There was a risk that the little boy would not be allowed to be taken there, but instead sent to an orphanage.

This was Nastassia's room in the dormitory

Caring Belarusians also got involved in solving this issue. In two days, they accomplished almost the impossible: they arranged for the neighbor to get a new place and organized her move, called for cleaning services, threw out the old sofa and bought a new one, set up a crib and a dresser with a changing table, hung new curtains, laid a rug, brought new blankets and pillows. And they also installed a microwave, ironed a mountain of children's clothes, and washed the baby stroller.

This is what Nastassia's room looks like now

Alyona calls this a real miracle. It is expected that soon the guardianship authorities will approve the room, and then the doctors will be able to discharge the mother and son home.

Now volunteers are thinking about how to help Nastassia adapt to the role of a mother — because it is very important that a woman who grew up in an orphanage herself learns to take responsibility for her own life.
