According to the FBI and local media, an armed assailant crashed a car at high speed into the synagogue building. As a result of the collision, the car caught fire, and the fire spread to the structure itself, causing thick smoke to rise above the roof.
After the crash, the attacker opened "active fire", but met immediate resistance: synagogue security noticed the assailant and engaged him in a shootout. During the confrontation, the attacker was shot dead on the spot — his death was confirmed by sources from Associated Press and local TV channel WXYZ.
Law enforcement is currently identifying the deceased and his motives.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard emphasized that, apart from the terrorist himself, no one was injured. Nevertheless, the incident caused serious alarm in the region: police urged residents to avoid the incident area, and local schools were urgently put into "secure mode" with access for unauthorized persons suspended.
This attack occurred during a period of extreme tension in the US, caused by the armed conflict with Iran, which began in late February. Security forces continue to work at the scene of the fire and shooting to rule out the presence of other threats.
