US Intelligence: Putin is confident he is winning in Ukraine and may fight NATO
According to assessments by US intelligence, Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that Russia is gradually advancing in Ukraine and will eventually be able to win. Therefore, he sees no need to stop the war and expects to achieve a peace agreement on his terms, writes The Moscow Times.

At the same time, analysts warn that continued hostilities could lead to a much more dangerous development of events — up to a direct conflict with NATO and even a threat to the United States of America. Although the pace of the Russian army's offensive last year was very slow, it still maintains a certain advantage and continues to occupy new territories, which strengthens Moscow's confidence.
Intelligence believes that the conflict could escalate into a dangerous "spiral of escalation," including the use of nuclear weapons. The threat is exacerbated by Russia's statements about the possibility of its use and the deployment of medium-range missiles, making the regional conflict potentially global.
The risk of the war expanding into Europe is also emphasized. The continuation of the conflict increases the likelihood of both accidental and deliberate escalation between Russia and NATO forces. Examples include sabotages that Moscow may organize against Western countries to weaken their support for Ukraine. Such actions could lead to casualties, economic losses, and disruptions in arms supplies.
Another important factor is China's support for Russia. Thanks to the supply of technologies and dual-use goods, Moscow can continue weapon production. However, this makes the Russian economy increasingly dependent on China and increases the risk of its long-term stagnation.
Russia's lagging is already noticeable in the space sector, where China has surpassed it as the main competitor to the US. At the same time, Russia is actively investing in the development of space weapons, including satellites with the capability of using a nuclear charge against other satellites. Such armaments could harm the security of all countries and contradict international agreements.
