The Best Janitor in Mogilev is a Dark-skinned Belarusian with Guinean Roots
When he learned that his portrait would be placed on the Board of Honor, he cried.
Ismail Suma works as a janitor at Housing and Utilities Office No. 7 in Mogilev. Local residents call him the "alarm clock". Last year, he reached one of the communal peaks — becoming Mogilev's best janitor, CTV reports.
His area of responsibility is the residential territory of a part of the Yubileiny microdistrict. The work is hard, he says — foliage, snow, he has to chip away ice. And when it rains, the wet leaves become very heavy.
Ismail is a Belarusian with Guinean roots.
“I love Belarus very much because it is clean, beautiful, and there are many storks here,” he says.
Local residents claim that since his appearance, it has become much cleaner around the entrances and in the yard. They consider him the best worker and even joke that he should be appointed as a boss.
Life forced Ismail to pick up a hammer for the first time. “I am my mother's only child; there was no father. I wanted to learn a man's work, even just to hammer a nail. But I came here — and learned a lot,” Ismail recounts.
Now he is upgrading his qualifications and wants to become a worker for comprehensive building maintenance. This is a step towards a higher salary and a dream of traveling. And after work, Ismail dances.
The work of housing and communal services employees is always in plain sight, so it does not go without criticism and complaints. Sometimes it seems that efforts go unnoticed. But the fact that people like Ismail are valued was proven by a sudden call that brought the Mogilev janitor to tears: his name was put on the Housing and Utilities Office's Board of Honor:
— They are honoring me — on the Board of Honor. I'll be hanging in the central Housing and Utilities Office.
— So, what did they just tell you?
— Yes.
— And why are you crying?
— From happiness.
— You didn't expect it?
— No.
