Europe finds itself targeted: Iranian missiles demonstrate unexpected range
The news of the strike on the Diego Garcia base, located 4000 km from Iran, shocked military experts. Previously, Iranian missiles were believed to reach only 2000-2500 km. Now, Berlin or Paris could be under threat.
Following reports of a strike on the Diego Garcia military base in the Indian Ocean, Western experts are discussing the potential range of Iranian missiles and the implications for European security.
The base is located approximately 4000 kilometers from Iranian territory, which exceeds the previously stated range of Iranian medium-range missiles. There is no official confirmation yet of the characteristics of the weaponry used, writes BILD.
Military analysts speculate that an upgraded version of Khorramshahr-type missiles or carriers developed from space launch vehicles might have been used. Such systems are theoretically capable of covering long distances, but may lose accuracy in the process.
«It was always assumed that they only flew a distance of 2000 to 2500 kilometers. The missiles either have a longer range than intelligence services previously thought, or they were launched without warheads,» emphasizes military expert Carlo Masala in an interview with BILD.
Analysts note that with a range of approximately 4000 kilometers, European cities could also potentially fall within reach.
