According to the forecast of the World Meteorological Organization, the El Niño weather phenomenon will influence the global climate between May and July 2026. Experts clarify that the probability of such an event developing is estimated at 40%. Does this mean that Belarus can expect extreme heat and new temperature records this summer?
Volha Baklanava, Head of the Climate Change Study Department of the Meteorological and Climatic Monitoring Service, Belhydromet Data Fund, noted that there is a slight probability of some records and temperature excesses in the country. However, a probabilistic forecast does not give the right to say that this will be the case throughout Belarus, writes "Komsomolskaya Pravda".
"Perhaps it will be somewhere at individual [meteorological] stations with the arrival of tropical air masses. We support the World Meteorological Organization with its statements. Well, we'll see. Time will tell."
