The Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita named the possible conditions that Minsk is presenting to Warsaw for the release of political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut, Reform.news noted.
Several independent sources of the publication confirmed that Poczobut's surname was on the lists of political prisoners whose release was requested by the Americans.
"And each time the Belarusian side crossed out his surname.
In Minsk, they say that this is "a different matter" that should be resolved within the framework of negotiations between Belarus and Poland," the article quotes one of the interlocutors involved in the process of releasing Belarusian political prisoners.
As the publication writes, the Polish side has been making efforts for Poczobut's release since his detention in Belarus. In particular, according to Rzeczpospolita, this issue was raised during the visit of the previous Polish President Andrzej Duda to China.
The publication also links the efforts to free Poczobut with the Polish government's opening of two border crossings with Belarus. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's "quiet" move to Warsaw, so as not to "irritate the dictator," became another signal to Minsk.
A "well-informed interlocutor" told the newspaper that one of Minsk's conditions is the resumption of political dialogue.
"They are awaiting a visit by a Polish politician to Minsk no lower in rank than a deputy minister and are counting on the resumption of political contacts. Poczobut is currently a hostage of the dictator. But even such a visit would not guarantee success. The situation is very complicated because the war continues, and Belarus is taking part in it on Russia's side," the newspaper quotes the interlocutor.
As Rzeczpospolita writes, a "source connected to Lukashenka's regime" confirmed this: Minsk is counting on such a visit, and Poczobut's release will depend on political dialogue.
It is worth noting that propagandist Yury Vaskrasenski has repeatedly publicly stated that Poczobut could be released if Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski personally came for him.
Another "well-informed" interlocutor of the publication claims to see "light at the end of the tunnel."
"We hope it's not an approaching train, but an exit from this tunnel," his words are quoted.
Andrzej Poczobut was detained exactly five years ago, on March 25, 2021, and two years later was sentenced to eight years in a penal colony.
