Lufthansa gives in — now it will also have tickets without luggage. Moreover, hand luggage is allowed to be smaller than with low-cost carriers
A suitcase or even a regular backpack can only be taken for an additional fee.

From May 19, the Lufthansa Aviation Group is launching a new ticket type — Economy Basic. It can be purchased from April 28.
The new fare is the cheapest in the company's lineup. But this affordability will come at a cost of restrictions: the passenger can only take a small personal item on board — a laptop bag or a small backpack no larger than 40×30×15 cm.
It is noteworthy that this is even less than what low-cost airlines allow: for example, Wizz Air allows bags up to 40×30×20 cm for free.
Full-size hand luggage — a suitcase or a regular backpack — with Lufthansa is already for an additional fee. Naturally, checked luggage is also not included in the ticket price.
The new fare will be available on all airlines of the group: in addition to Lufthansa itself, these are SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Air Dolomiti. It applies to short and medium-haul European routes.
It should be noted that the changes are taking place against the backdrop of discussions in the European Parliament of a bill that could oblige airlines to include hand luggage in the ticket price for free. If the law is passed, Lufthansa will have to revise its new policy.
