Minsk Zoo to Host Fire Festival. They Say Animals Will Be Indoors, So It's All Fine
The capital's zoo is actively promoting "the hottest event of spring" — a fire festival. For three days, a fire show will be staged next to the animals in their enclosures.
No sooner had Belarusians recovered from the crazy idea of organizing a music rave in Belovezhskaya Pushcha (which the organizers eventually postponed), than the capital's zoo presented its own unpleasant surprise.
They decided to celebrate the start of the season quite unusually there. From May 22-24, the Minsk Fire Festival will take place at the zoo. A 1.5-hour fire show is planned for each of these days. Live music is also promised.
Tickets for the festival day cost from 20 rubles (for large families) up to 90 rubles (for the "two adults + two children" package).
Many are outraged by this idea on social media.
A reader of "Nasha Niva" contacted the zoo with a question, asking if it's normal to hold loud shows with fire near animals.
There, they tried to reassure her, saying they care about the animals, and the fire show itself would be held on a platform located away from the enclosures. They also claimed that the animals themselves would be in indoor facilities at that time.
Later, a similar post appeared on the zoo's Instagram, but the ability to leave comments there was disabled.
Simultaneously, the zoo's account is running a giveaway for free tickets to the fire festival.
