Efforts are being made to recover over 162 thousand rubles from a Russian for an illegally hunted bison in Belarus

The Petrykaŭ district court upheld the prosecutor's claim and ordered a Russian citizen to pay a fine of over 162 thousand rubles for the illegal hunting of a bison. In addition, the man must pay over 8.1 thousand rubles in state duty, the General Prosecutor's Office reported .

The incident occurred more than 10 years ago, back in December 2015. The man was participating in a hunting tour in the Pripyatsky National Park. During a driven hunt, he illegally hunted a bison that was not specified in his hunting permit.

A criminal case was initiated against the hunter for illegal hunting, which caused damage on a particularly large scale. In January 2016, the prosecutor of the Petrykaŭ district filed a lawsuit to recover five times the cost of a bison hunting permit for the benefit of the national park. At that time, the amount claimed was 80 thousand euros, equivalent to the National Bank's exchange rate.

In 2017, the criminal case was transferred to Russia for further investigation. In 2020, the criminal prosecution was terminated due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, but the damage was never compensated.

Therefore, in 2021, the prosecutor filed a civil lawsuit. After the denomination was carried out, the amount claimed exceeded 162 thousand rubles.

The Russian was duly notified of the court hearing but did not appear. In a written statement, the man stated that he did not agree with the claims.

The court decided to satisfy the prosecutor's claim in full. However, the decision has not yet entered into legal force.
