A three-section Solaris Urbino 24 electric bus, 24.8 meters long, recently took to the streets of Vilnius. It can accommodate up to 183 passengers, but currently the city is specifically checking the readiness of streets and stops for transport of this size, writes "Volna".
Since August 18, urban transport specialists have been testing the bus's maneuverability at turns and roundabouts, checking if it fits at stops and in lay-bys, and also simulating a breakdown and evacuation of the vehicle.
The bus was studied on sections that may become part of Vilnius's transport network in 2030-2035.
August 20 was the last day of testing, after which the demonstration vehicle will head to Riga.
The 704 kWh battery provides a range of 260 kilometers. A full charge from a 150 kW station takes 4 hours and 45 minutes.
A similar 24-meter trolleybus was already tested in Vilnius in 2021-2022 — back then it turned out that some stops were too short for it.
The city is not acquiring the current Solaris yet: the already concluded contract for 112 electric buses includes only 12- and 18-meter MAN models, which are expected to arrive by the end of 2027. VVT will consider the possibility of purchasing 25-meter vehicles no earlier than 2030 — if they are needed on the busiest routes.
