Poland, as part of the "East Shield", will also develop the "East Sword"
Poland's Minister of National Defense and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Warsaw plans to develop the "East Sword" operation as part of the "East Shield" program, writes Onet.pl.

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced this during a press conference dedicated to two years of implementing the "East Shield" — a system for strengthening Poland's eastern border.
According to the minister, the main task of the new element is to deter a potential adversary by having the ability to deliver long-range and precise strikes.
The "East Shield" program covers not only the border with Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast but also sections of the border with Belarus and Ukraine.
Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the project has ceased to be exclusively a Polish initiative and has become an allied project. German sappers, among others, are participating in its implementation. According to the minister, other countries may join in strengthening NATO's eastern flank in the future.
The European SAFE mechanism plays an important role in the program's development. Thanks to it, almost 30 new projects have been added to the "East Shield". These include unmanned and anti-drone systems, artificial intelligence technologies, and cyber defense tools.
As Kosiniak-Kamysz states, preliminary readiness for operational actions has already been achieved in many places over two years. Poland has already allocated about 10 billion euros for measures to strengthen the eastern border.
Regarding the "East Sword," its main focus will be the development of long-range and precision strike capabilities. The minister stated that Poland needs more so-called effectors — various types of drones, missiles, and other military equipment capable of deterring a potential adversary.
Thus, the "East Sword" should complement the "East Shield" defensive fortification system not only with physical barriers and fortifications but also with the ability to deliver a long-range, precise strike against a potential threat.
