A criminal case for animal cruelty has been initiated in the Vitebsk region. The incident occurred in April in the village of Pabyadzіnshchyna, the Investigative Committee reported .

According to investigative materials, a 53-year-old woman and her 67-year-old neighbor, while intoxicated, brutally beat a German Shepherd. The animal was held on a tow rope and struck with a sledgehammer.
Neighbors rushed to the scene upon hearing the dog's loud yelps. After this, the aggressors stopped the abuse, but later dragged the shepherd into a barn and hung it by the neck with a rope, after which they continued to drink alcoholic beverages.
Local residents freed the dog and called the police. An examination confirmed that the animal had sustained severe injuries.
The woman stated that the dog allegedly suffocated chickens. A criminal case for animal cruelty committed by a group of persons has been initiated against both suspects. They face up to four years of restricted or deprived liberty.
A neighbor took in the injured German Shepherd. The animal is currently receiving necessary medical care.
