From September 1, 2026, Belarusian school canteens plan to change the organization of meals. The main focus will be on main courses, salads, and drinks, and soups will no longer be an mandatory part of the menu, writes Times.by.

The division of students into age groups for calculating nutrition standards will also change. Instead of two categories (6–10 years and 11–18 years), three will be introduced: students of grades 1–4, 5–7, and 8–11. This should allow for better consideration of the needs of children of different ages.
The school menu will feature more fresh vegetables and herbs, which Belarusian producers can supply throughout the year. At the same time, ready-made semi-finished products of Belarusian production will be more widely used: cutlets, nuggets, bitki (meatballs/patties), dumplings, pancakes, and other products. The government promises that only those products that meet safety and quality requirements will be selected for schools.
Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Pietkiewicz noted at a special round table that sanitary requirements for school meals are also planned to be revised to make the system more flexible and adapted to modern habits. According to her, today's parents and children eat differently than several decades ago, so daily soup or mandatory fish on a specific day no longer corresponds to the modern eating model.
According to the provided data, over the past year, supplies of chopped meat semi-finished products for school canteens have increased more than threefold — from 135.5% to 329%.
The previous reform of school nutrition in Belarus came into effect on September 1, 2024. At that time, about 400 new dishes were developed, taking into account children's tastes and healthy eating principles. The new changes should be a continuation of this reform.
