15-year-old opened fire near a school in Turkey. At least 11 injured
In Turkey's Manisa province, authorities are investigating the circumstances of a shooting near a high school, which left at least 11 students injured. All wounded were taken to hospitals, two of them are in critical condition, writes Euronews.
According to preliminary data, the shooting was carried out by a 15-year-old teenager armed with a high-caliber rifle. His identity was established thanks to surveillance camera footage. Turkish law enforcement officers detained the suspect as he tried to escape. His mother, father, and grandfather were also detained.
After reports of the shooting, police patrols and ambulance crews were dispatched to the school. Law enforcement agencies began to investigate all circumstances of the incident.
Video footage also captured a fight between passersby and police officers near the school. One person was taken into custody. Police stated that an investigation into this incident is underway.
The Turkish Ministry of Education announced that classes at this school are suspended until the end of the week.
This is already the third shooting incident in a Turkish school in 2026. The incident occurred amidst authorities' attempts to find a solution to the problem of violent incidents, which have become more frequent recently.
Last year, in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa province, a former lyceum student attacked people with a hunting rifle. At that time, 16 people were injured, and the attacker later committed suicide.
The very next day, an armed attack occurred at a high school in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş province. As a result, 10 people died, including one teacher. According to reports, the attacker also died on the scene.
