From October 1, a ban on amateur and commercial fishing in wintering pits is introduced in Belarus. It will be in effect until April 15, 2027. The measure is necessary to prevent mass fish harvesting and preserve its population during the wintering period.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food reminded that a wintering pit is a section of a reservoir where fish survive the cold period.
The ban is provided by the rules of amateur fishing. In winter, the metabolism of most fish species slows down, and their activity and intensity of feeding decrease. Because of this, fish become easier prey, so they are especially vulnerable during this period.
A list of reservoirs where wintering pits are located is available on the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
