A mysterious robbery story, typical of the American Wild West of the 19th century, occurred on the Belarusian-Russian border at the end of 2025.
A female courier was supposed to deliver over 100 thousand euros and 11 thousand dollars from Borisov to Moscow. She was transporting the money in a shuttle bus, reports Onliner.by.
According to the investigation, three men had previously agreed to steal the money. One of them accompanied the courier and knew about the large sum being transported. He passed information about the route and stops to his accomplices. The second followed in a car and was supposed to help them escape. The third was supposed to break into the minivan and take the money.
Initially, two men tried to steal the money at a gas station in the Borisov district, but failed to do so and followed the minivan into the Smolensk region.
At one of the gas stations in the Krasninsky district, the courier and her escort went into a cafe. Then the third participant entered the minivan, took the package with currency, and drove off with an accomplice.
Later, the men returned to Belarus and divided the stolen money in a forest. According to the investigation, one of the participants also stated that part of the money was given for deleting surveillance camera footage.
Recordings from cameras, data on phone connections and vehicle movements, as well as correspondence, helped to find all three. Upon arrest, a phone was found with one of the men, which, according to the investigation, was used for communication with accomplices on the day of the theft.
Two of the accused pleaded guilty and described how they prepared and carried out the theft. The third denies his involvement and refused to give testimony.
The accused are 22, 37, and 49 years old. Two of them had no prior criminal record. The 37-year-old resident of Borisov has an unserved and unexpunged criminal conviction. They have been charged with various offenses.
