Belarusians are hunting for cornflower keychains — searching at gas stations, but they are already sold out almost everywhere
The internet is buzzing about keychains with cornflowers and condensed milk. Belarusians are transporting these keychains from one city to another, and foreigners are ready to order them from thousands of kilometers away.
The keychains in question are made by the Brest merchandise brand Vikowest. Besides cornflowers and condensed milk, the line also includes keychains with draniki (potato pancakes), a bison, and a stork, but it's the cornflower ones that have become incredibly popular.
This trend is only a few days old. It seems to have started during the "Slavic Bazaar," when tourists bought the keychains as souvenirs and posted their photos online. The trend was also fueled by a post from blogger govorko_taty, who created a selection of souvenirs from Belarus and placed a photo of those very keychains first. Now there are almost 300 comments under her post.
The keychains are now so hard to find that people are literally hunting for them. Happy owners post photos of their finds and share where they got them:
“Delighted with these keychains. Vitebsk, City Hall.”
“My husband found it in 'Pieršy Handliovy' (First Shopping Mall), in the Rahačoŭ store (2nd floor).”
“I couldn't find one with condensed milk in Minsk, but mom bought these keychains in Vitebsk region.”
Those who aren't as quick are left without keychains. A Belarusian woman wrote on Threads about deciding to ask about the keychains at a gas station — some lucky people had bought them at Belorusneft gas stations:
“Today I go to a gas station and ask where their souvenir products are, I didn't even have time to say the word 'keychain'. And they immediately replied: 'Miss, there are no cornflower keychains, they're already sold out.'”
There are, however, also complaints. Some users who bought the keychains before the hype report that the paint chips off very quickly. So, owners of the souvenir share a secret — to keep the keychain beautiful longer, you need to coat it with varnish.
Thanks to Threads, people outside Belarus also learned about the souvenir. There are comments where users ask about delivery of the keychains to Russia, Kazakhstan, and even Istanbul, and also inquire if they are available on marketplaces.
Similar keychains were found on Wildberries, but they differ significantly from the original. The keychain from Wildberries doesn't have a beautiful cornflower, and the can of condensed milk is noticeably larger than on the Brest souvenir.
