Gomel, Luninets, Lelchitsy, and Ivye are no longer considered radioactive
Belarus has updated the list of settlements and objects located in radioactive contamination zones. The corresponding resolution was signed by Prime Minister Alexander Turchyn.

As reported by the government, in 2021–2025, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Health conducted a survey of contaminated territories. Specialists took soil samples and assessed dose loads on the population. The results reportedly showed a significant improvement in the radiation situation in a number of settlements.
According to the previous list, approved in 2021, 2022 settlements, where about 930.6 thousand people lived, as well as 49 objects, were located in radioactive contamination zones.
The new list reduces this number. Now, 1845 settlements will remain in the contamination zones — 177 fewer. The number of residents living in such territories will decrease from 930.6 thousand to 364.2 thousand people, meaning almost by 566 thousand. Also, 16 objects were excluded from the list — instead of 49, 33 remain.
Among the settlements that will no longer belong to radioactive contamination zones, Gomel, Luninets, Lelchitsy, and Ivye are named.
The new resolution will come into effect on January 1, 2027.
At the same time, for children who live or study in educational institutions in territories being removed from the contaminated category, the right to free meals is retained until June 2027.
