A Belarusian shift worker's colleague informed his wife that he was living with another woman in Russia. And it all began.

The result — one in a coma. And three years in a penal colony for the other.

Mikalai Lebedzeu, a Belarusian, was sentenced to three years in a penal colony in the Oryol region of Russia for beating his countryman and friend, S. Shviadouski, known by everyone as "Raoul".

The dramatic events that unfolded in the room of the "Mtsenskaya" hotel are worth recounting in detail.

Lebedzeu and Shviadouski hail from the same area in Belarus, were formerly neighbors, and later started commuting to work for the same Russian individual entrepreneur. The friends worked as rebar fitters.

Lebedzeu had a cohabiting partner named Yulia in Belarus. When Shviadouski was home between shifts in September 2024, she asked him about her man. But at that time, Shviadouski couldn't say anything, as Lebedzeu was not living in the same dormitory as him.

However, when Shviadouski returned to his shift in Mtsensk a few weeks later, he made inquiries and found out that Lebedzeu was living with another woman. He then decided to report this to Yulia — he wrote a message with the sad truth in WhatsApp.

On October 14, 2024, Shviadouski returned to the room earlier than planned because work had stopped due to rain. Four of his neighbors were already there, some of whom were drinking.

After some time, Lebedzeu, already drunk, entered the room. Initially, the conversation between him and Shviadouski was calm: Lebedzeu explained that he had quarreled with Yulia precisely because Shviadouski had informed her about his rival. However, the tone of the conversation quickly changed — a high-pitched conflict began between the men.

Lebedzeu began to slap Shviadouski, who was lying on his bed. Witnesses counted about ten such blows.

Neighbors tried to stop Lebedzeu, but he urged them not to interfere and assured them that he would decide when to stop the beating. Shviadouski himself at that time only asked to be left alone, citing that he wanted to sleep and had to work the next day.

The neighbors went for a smoke break, and when they returned, they saw Shviadouski lying on the floor, and Lebedzeu continuing to beat him. Shviadouski at that moment was covering himself with his hands, apologizing and saying that he would never write to Lebedzeu's wife again. Despite this, Lebedzeu inflicted another 4-5 blows, splitting his lip until it bled.

Shviadouski struggled to get up and sat on his bed. Lebedzeu ordered him to "be a man" and stand up. When Shviadouski got to his feet, Lebedzeu, facing him, delivered a powerful side blow with his clenched right fist to the left side of his face. From this blow, Shviadouski fell between the beds — and, according to a witness, hit his head on a wooden bedside table. Upon falling, he gasped and lost consciousness, with bloody foam coming from his mouth.

Seeing how serious the situation was, those present tried to calm and pull Lebedzeu away, and also called a colleague who lived in the same hotel on the first floor. He came, spoke to Lebedzeu in Romani and ordered him to leave, after which he called an ambulance. A pillow was placed under the unconscious Shviadouski's head so that he wouldn't choke on his blood.

As a result, the man was taken to the hospital with a diagnosis of closed craniocerebral trauma, severe brain contusion, acute right subdural hematoma, cerebral edema, and grade I coma.

The next day, Lebedzeu was detained. He admitted guilt only partially: he claimed there were a couple of blows, but when he left, Shviadouski was conscious. But they didn't believe him.

As a result, Lebedzeu's actions were qualified under Part 1, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, dangerous to human life. He was sentenced to three years in a penal colony.
