“Forget X. The Bird is Back.” A New Twitter Has Emerged

A former Twitter lawyer launched the social network Twitter.now with a new approach to moderation and is fighting for the brand with Elon Musk.

Former Twitter company lawyer Steven Coates launched a new social network, Twitter.now, in test mode, as reported by Business Insider. The startup Operation Bluebird offers a fundamentally new content moderation model, where users themselves determine the level of undesirable or inauthentic material in their feed instead of centralized algorithms.

The project founders announce the return of the social network's legendary symbol and invite users to disconnect from Elon Musk's platform: “Forget your X. The bird is back,” Steven Coates wrote, announcing the platform's launch.

For content moderation, Twitter.now uses the artificial intelligence system VERA, which verifies claims, adds context, and assigns a trust rating to posts. In the future, users will be able to set an individual "threshold" for this rating to automatically filter out fakes and insults.

Company X sued the startup for trademark infringement, however, Operation Bluebird claims that Musk effectively abandoned the "Twitter" brand, the name "tweet," and the bird logo after the rebranding.

During the hearings, District Judge Colm F. Connolly noted: “I'm going to make one finding: I didn't find that X presented convincing evidence of the use of 'tweet' or the bird logo. But I haven't yet made a determination regarding the use of 'Twitter'. That's something I would need further clarification on.”

Currently, Twitter.now operates in a limited web mode for several hundred users, and early registration and nickname reservation costs $20.
