Barbara Fustachenka, co-founder of the University of the Third Age, dies in Hrodna
On August 30, Doctor of Medical Sciences Barbara Fustachenka passed away in Hrodna. She was 86 years old, writes Hrodna.life.
Fustachenka was a prominent public figure of the Polish minority in Hrodna and one of the active representatives of the Polish School Matrix (Polska Macierz Szkolna), which was liquidated by the authorities.
She was also one of the founders of the University of the Third Age in Hrodna, which operated under the organization and united elderly Poles. As the university's chairperson, she organized meetings and lectures, helping to involve older people in educational and cultural life.
Barbara Fustachenka actively participated in promoting Polish education and culture in Hrodna, and also took part in scientific conferences.
Fustachenka's professional life was closely connected with the Department of Biochemistry at Hrodna Medical University. She was a specialist in biochemistry and one of the first graduates of this educational institution. In the 1960s and 1970s, Hrodna formed its own scientific school of biochemistry, and Fustachenka was among those who worked in this environment for many years, developing this scientific direction.
Acquaintances remember Barbara Fustachenka as open to dialogue, a benevolent person with a sense of humor.
