Uladzislau Ulasevich, according to his social media, was born in the town of Karelichy. As late as 2024, he led the ordinary life of a young man: playing computer games under the nickname Katana, looking for odd jobs, and living in the Moscow region, occasionally appearing in local chats of his Moscow suburban residential complex.

In 2025, the young man signed a contract with the Russian army and found himself in the trenches.

At war, the Belarusian took the gaming nickname "Katana" as his call sign. Ulasevich served as a junior sergeant in the 153rd Tank Regiment of the 47th Division (the so-called "First Luhansk Company"). In photos from the frontline, he posed with a reconnaissance quadcopter.

In March 2026, the young man's unit was stationed near the village of Pischane in the Kupyansk direction.

On March 13, he last contacted his family and warned that he was going out of communication, and as of March 21, he is officially considered missing in action.

Now his mother, Hanna Kuprevich, records desperate video appeals to his fellow servicemen, hoping to learn something, as military unit No. 18425 has told her nothing since then.

In total, more than 500 Belarusians, lured by promises of easy money, have died or gone missing as part of the Russian army in the aggressive war in Ukraine. According to military experts, the average lifespan of a Russian mercenary at the front is several months, and in assault units — several weeks.

Experts estimate that in four years of war, Russia has lost about 400,000 servicemen killed, and over a million wounded.
