An unusual multifunctional complex Smala is being built in Smolevichi. It is expected to look like something out of the Netherlands
Minsk design studio ASGP architects shared a visualization of the multifunctional complex Smala, whose construction has already begun in Smolevichi, on Threads. The unusual object will appear in the Lipki microdistrict near the M1 highway. Instead of a boring hangar made of sandwich panels, a series of vibrant multicolored houses of various heights will be built here, housing shops, household services, and a food court. The publication Domovita.by tells what the future complex will look like.
The Lipki microdistrict is located on the southeastern outskirts of Smolevichi — it takes literally half an hour to get here from Minsk by car via the high-speed M1 highway. The location is interesting: in addition to the usual private sector, the Lipki Village club settlement began to grow here in 2020.
At one time, the Minsk developer "Trest Promstroy" acquired about 12 hectares of land here for a project to create neat low-rise buildings in a unified European style. The square meter was offered at a very affordable price at the start — from $800 with 100% payment.
Now, a new infrastructure object is being built next to the residential development. What is very pleasing: instead of a standard pavilion, the architects of the ASGP architects design studio decided to create something much brighter and more unusual.
The authors themselves described the concept as follows:
"The volume of the complex was divided into a series of separate 'houses' of different scales, heights, and colors. Each of them denotes a separate function or tenant (food court, retail, household services), but together they form a unified composition. A distinct silhouette and large colored planes make the complex easily recognizable and readable from the road. The result is a small architectural street."
As a result, in the renders, the project looks more like a neat quarter somewhere in the Netherlands than a typical shopping center.
The buildings feature broken silhouettes with steep gable roofs and facade finishing with vertical relief. Modesty was also not shown with the palette: the project boldly mixed deep blue, warm orange, and vibrant terracotta colors. From the road, such an ensemble will definitely catch the eye and stand out against the greenery.
The architects confirmed that construction is already underway, but no further information about this complex is publicly available. Online, one cannot find official data about the client, construction deadlines, or specific operators that will occupy these spaces. For now, we can only observe the project and wait to see how accurately this bold idea will be implemented in reality.
