In Turkey, the use of social media by children will be restricted starting November 1. The relevant regulatory act of the Cybersecurity Directorate under the Turkish Presidential Administration was published on October 10 in the official gazette Resmi Gazete.

According to the document, social media networks will not be able to provide their services to children younger than 15 years old. For users aged 15 to 18, platforms must create a separate mode with enhanced security and privacy protection measures. Age verification for already created and active accounts must be completed by March 31, 2027.
User age will be confirmed through the nationwide e-Devlet public services system using a special identifier.
Accounts of teenagers aged 15 to 18 will be closed by default. They will be prohibited from conducting live broadcasts, receiving personalized advertising, and using certain content recommendation mechanisms.
Social media networks will also not be able to recommend other accounts to minors based on data collected about them. The profiles of the teenagers themselves cannot be suggested to other users.
In addition, the protection of minors' personal data will be enhanced. Platforms will be prohibited from synchronizing children's accounts with phone books, contact lists, email address books, as well as friend lists and subscriptions in other applications and on other platforms. They will also not be able to access these sources and process the data obtained from them.
The regulatory act obliges social media networks to develop and provide parents and guardians with tools to control children's accounts, their settings, platform usage time, geolocation, paid transactions, and other functions.
The introduction of similar restrictions on social media for children is now being discussed in European Union countries, and the United Kingdom already did it earlier.
