In July 2025, a 37-year-old man rented an electric scooter for a day at a rental point in Victory Park, valued at 2,201 rubles. However, he had no intention of returning the vehicle to the entrepreneur and pawned it. He and his cohabitant spent the proceeds on personal needs, Minsk-Novosti reports.
When the rental period expired, the rental employee contacted the client. He replied that he allegedly couldn't return the scooter in time and asked to extend the term for another two days, to which the entrepreneur reluctantly agreed. After that, the swindler stopped responding.
Having not received the return of the property, the individual entrepreneur filed a report with the police. Another criminal case was initiated against the culprit.
In court, the man fully admitted his guilt.
— The accused is divorced, was not officially employed anywhere, and had previously been criminally charged 21 times, including for property crimes, — commented Dmitry Khavauka, Senior Prosecutor for Special Assignments.
The man was sentenced to three years and six months, which he will serve in a correctional colony under strict regime conditions, and was also fined 1,050 rubles. In addition, the accused must compensate for the damage caused by the crime.
