14 American Senators Urged Trump to Revoke Putin's Invitation to G20 Summit in Miami
"Putin bears sole responsibility for Russia's unleashing of a full-scale aggressive war against Ukraine," the appeal states.
A bipartisan group of 14 senators has urged US President Donald Trump to withdraw the invitation to Kremlin head Vladimir Putin for the G20 summit, which will take place in Miami in December, writes the Washington Post, citing the senators' letter.
"Putin bears sole responsibility for Russia's unleashing of a full-scale aggressive war against Ukraine…His participation in the G20 summit in the US raises serious concerns about legitimizing and normalizing a government that continues to attack civilian targets in Ukraine daily."
The senators noted that Putin, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and other members of the Russian delegation are under US sanctions due to actions considered a threat to national security.
According to the senators, the lack of international isolation could reduce Putin's motivation to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine.
Previously, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin would attend the G20 leaders' summit in Miami this December.
However, media reports suggest that the Russian leader's arrival in Miami is unlikely.
