Young Front activists detained in Minsk.
In Belarus, police detained six activists of the unregistered organization Young Front for three days. For three days “silent hunting for Young Front turned into a witch hunt with Soviet repression and deformities. They were seizing activists everywhere - in the streets, in front of passers-by, they were breaking into the apartments, beating them in the police stations,” the organization representatives said.
Thus, May 16, Uladzimir Jaromienak, Paviel Siarhiej and Raman Pratasievich, who had hung out a white-red-white flag near Kastrychnickaja Square, were arrested for unknown reasons. Young Front claims that Raman Pratasievich was severely beaten when detained.
Also, Minsk Central District Court sentenced activists Zmicier Kramianiecki, Mikalaj Dziamidzienka and Raman Vasilieu to 10—12 days on May 15. They had been arrested the previous day for hanging out a white-red-white flag in Niamiha Street.
Activist Mikhail Muski was sent to the army straight from the Center of offenders’ isolation in Akrescina Street. He will serve in the 29th-missile air defense division of Belarus near Liepiel. Young Front notes that in 2009 the activist was not qualified for military service, but this year after a political action near the Foreign Ministry building, he was taken to a military hospital under the escort, which qualified him for military service.
