Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to appoint his military secretary, Roman Goffman, as the new head of the Mossad (Israel's Intelligence and Security Service), according to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's office.

It is noted that he will replace the current head of the agency, David Barnea, after the end of his five-year term in June 2026.
Netanyahu's request to appoint Goffman was submitted today to the country's Advisory Committee on Senior Appointments.
Roman Goffman was born in 1976 in Mozyr, and in 1990 his family left the USSR for Israel.
Major General Roman Goffman has extensive experience in military affairs. Previously, he held operational and command positions in the Israeli army. He also participated in decision-making during military operations on all fronts and was in constant contact with all intelligence services, especially the Mossad. In addition, Goffman personally participated in combat operations and was wounded in the Gaza Strip.
It is noteworthy that Goffman is not the first native of Belarus to lead the famous Mossad. In 1948-1963, the Mossad was led by Isser Harel (Israel Galperin), who was born in 1912 in Vitebsk and who personally led the operation to capture the Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann in Argentina in 1960.
