A Brest resident paralyzed the company's operations by carelessly clicking on an email containing a malicious file.

A 36-year-old company director filed a fraud complaint with the police. He said that the specifics of the company's work involve communication with individuals and legal entities by email, according to the regional police.

"One of the employees, while browsing messages in e-mail, opened a malicious file that was contained in the received e-mail and disguised as a working program. After that, the malicious software encrypted all the information and files available on the company's server, restricting employees' access to them," the police department said.

Only one readable file was found on the desktop. The text document contained a demand for the transfer of more than Br30,000 for decrypting computer information.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 208 (extortion).
