Phone scammers' couriers who defrauded an 86-year-old woman were detained
An 86-year-old Minsk resident turned to the Frunze District Department of Internal Affairs, becoming a victim of scammers operating under the "intercom replacement" scheme.
Under the guise of declaring money, the pensioner handed over more than 40 thousand rubles to the arriving courier, reports "Minsk Police".
Operatives hot on the trail detained an accomplice of the scammers — a 25-year-old foreigner. He did not manage to transfer the money to the next link in the criminal chain. The funds were confiscated and will be returned to the victim.
An acquaintance from his homeland told the defendant about the criminal "vacancy". Together they came to Minsk, where, following the curator's instructions, they visited four more addresses and took savings from Minsk residents, which they then handed over to an unknown person. The accomplice was also detained.
Criminal cases have been initiated.
