Capital city trauma centers record up to 70 cases of injuries per day during icy conditions
During icy conditions, the number of trauma center patients can sharply increase to 70 from the usual 10-15 people per shift. This was reported to journalists at the 2nd Central District Polyclinic of Frunzensky district of Minsk, writes BelTA.
“A number of polyclinics from Frunzensky, Tsentralny, and Maskouski districts are assigned to our trauma center. On average, during the daytime, up to 15 patients seek treatment for injuries, but during icy conditions, their number increases severalfold. The maximum figure was 70 people,” said Viktor Komar, a traumatologist and head of the traumatology department.
The department has all the necessary diagnostic equipment, a plaster room and an operating room, where mini-operations are performed under local anesthesia.
“In case hospitalization is necessary, a splint is applied to the patient, after which an emergency medical team transports them to a hospital,” noted the head of the traumatology department.
Medical professionals have a concept of injury seasonality. For instance, while winter is dangerous due to icy injuries, in spring and summer, injuries are more often sustained on outdoor sports grounds and dacha plots, and in autumn — during harvesting.
