Trump: One or two most difficult issues of the agreement on Ukraine remain unresolved
US and Ukrainian Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave a joint press conference after talks at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence. During these negotiations, almost all issues were reportedly resolved, except for the most significant ones, primarily territorial.

Trump highly praised the meeting with Zelenskyy and considers it, along with the conversation with Putin, which took place earlier, extremely productive:
“We had a wonderful meeting. We discussed many issues. As you know, I had a great phone conversation with President Putin, which lasted over two hours. We discussed many points, and I truly believe we came much closer, perhaps very close. Our meeting was great. We covered, some would say, 95 percent. I don't know the exact percentage, but we made great progress on ending that war, which is certainly the deadliest war since World War II, probably the largest war since World War II.”
He doesn't know if the war will finally be over, "but we're certainly very close."
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine and the United States have completed the coordination of a number of documents within the framework of a peace package. He explained that, in particular, American security guarantees have now been agreed upon.
"The 20-point plan is 90% agreed, US security guarantees are 100% agreed, joint US and EU security guarantees for Ukraine are almost agreed, with the military dimension (of these guarantees) being 100% agreed," Zelenskyy stated.
Also, according to the Ukrainian president, there are documents on which work is ongoing.
"The Ukraine Prosperity Plan is now being finalized, and we are also currently discussing the sequence of actions," he stated.
Zelenskyy said that during the negotiations, they also spoke about a referendum that could be used as part of the peace plan. According to him, if the peace plan is difficult for Ukrainian society, then society must vote.
"Probably, the peace plan will need to be approved in parliament or in a referendum. You know, there was a poll, and 91% spoke in favor of ending this war," Trump said in turn, emphasizing that this is a painful issue for Ukrainian society, as it concerns their own land.
The US President also admitted that "one or two difficult unresolved issues remain" in the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. One of them is the territorial issue concerning Donbas. However, even here he has reasons for optimism.
"I think we're closer than we were before — it's not resolved yet, but we've come much closer," the US president said.
The issue of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was also discussed, but has not yet been resolved, Trump reported:
"Putin is working with Ukraine to launch the Zaporizhzhia NPP, he wants to see it put into operation. He is no longer targeting it with missiles, because that would be dangerous. But we are working."
According to Trump, the issue regarding the ZNPP was discussed for a long time, and he added that it "can be immediately put into operation."
Russia, as Trump is convinced after his conversation with Putin, is ready to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
"Russia — it sounds a little strange — Putin is very generous about Ukraine being able to recover, he is ready to supply cheap electricity," the US president stated.
At the same time, Putin, according to Trump, does not agree to a temporary ceasefire for holding a referendum in Ukraine.
"Not on a ceasefire. And that's one of the issues we're talking about right now. If they have to start [fighting] again, he doesn't want to be in that position. I understand his position," the US president stated.
The issue of a "free economic zone" in Donbas has also not yet been resolved.
"The word 'resolved' is too strong, we haven't resolved this issue yet, but we're close to a solution, very soon," Trump said.
Both presidents stated that negotiations will continue. Trump announced that he would hold a new conversation with Zelenskyy on Monday:
"We will be talking over the next few weeks. We'll probably be talking a lot, but we'll talk tomorrow."
"We agreed that the teams will meet in the coming weeks, and President Trump agreed to host us in January, presumably in Washington," Zelenskyy confirmed such intentions.
Trump believes that if everything continues to go well, peace can be achieved in a few weeks.
"I don't know when, but we will do it," he stated. "Russia would like it to end. Ukraine would like it to end. And I think it's time to end it."
