Lukashenka ponders how to revive the birth rate so that we do not disappear as a nation
Lukashenka wants the government to find him a formula that will revive demographic processes. He pondered this today at a meeting with officials.
The politician noted that upon the birth of children, families receive one-time payments of about 5 thousand rubles for the first child and more than 7 thousand rubles for subsequent children. There is also a monthly allowance of about a thousand rubles and family capital.
"It would seem, have children! Children are fully supported by the state. But the modern world has become too pragmatic. Young people first strive to solve other issues – education, career, something else, and only then have children," he said.
He recalled that 10 years ago the birth rate was higher, although the standard of living of the population was lower. In 2015, 120 thousand children were born, and last year – 55 thousand. At the same time, GDP per capita grew from 18 thousand dollars to 35 thousand dollars. Lukashenka wants the government to develop a formula for reviving demographics.
"So that we do not disappear as a nation and there is someone to work, it's as simple as twice two: two parents – two children. This is the base, as young people say. And even better – three or more. Therefore, at the state level, an effective formula must be found that, firstly, will revive demographic processes. Secondly, it will become a motivation for conscious motherhood and fatherhood, making them a fashionable trend. Then we will preserve and multiply our population," he said.
