Panov, but the wrong one. The Russian Embassy in Cyprus found a different person dead than previously reported.
As reported by the resources «VCHK-OGPU» and Rucriminal.info, Anton Panov, an SVR employee who worked as a cryptographer for the diplomatic mission, was found dead at the Russian Embassy in Cyprus. Meanwhile, Alexey Panov, the third secretary of the Russian Embassy, who was previously «buried» , was alive and well at least last night.

According to «VCHK-OGPU» data, Anton Panov's lifeless body was found on the territory of the diplomatic mission. Embassy staff did not allow local law enforcement agencies access. It is assumed that the cryptographer might have committed suicide.
In Soviet times, Panov studied at a school attached to the group of Soviet forces in Germany, and later at a lyceum for gifted children with a strong focus on physics and mathematics. Further in his biography, there are significant gaps, and he reappears, according to leaks, as an employee of NTC «Atlas», which serves special services and specializes in developments in the field of computer security and cryptography. His next place of work was the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, the same leaks indicate Panov's close connection to his actual place of service — military unit 33949, which corresponds to the Foreign Intelligence Service.
According to his relatives' social media posts, in winter 2025, Anton Panov vacationed in Sochi at Krasnaya Polyana, in summer he was with his family in Moscow, and during the «velvet season» he was already in Cyprus. He and his wife Natalia (according to leaks, she previously worked at the «President» hotel) celebrated New Year's in Nicosia.
According to indirect data, Anton Panov was an avid gambler and constantly placed bets on sports events.
