According to NOAA's forecast, the current El Niño could become the strongest on record. The probability of this is estimated at almost 70%. The peak of the phenomenon is expected in late autumn — early winter.

A strong El Niño is capable of increasing the average global temperature and raising the risk of droughts, floods, and extreme heat in various regions.

Scientists note that predicting the consequences of the phenomenon is particularly difficult against the backdrop of global warming. It is expected that 2027 could become the hottest year on record, and a new record could be set as early as 2026.
