Former Commander of Ukrainian Submarine Who Defected to Russia Blown Up in Sevastopol
According to VChK-OGPU, Russian Navy officer Robert Shageyev died during an explosion in Sevastopol. Telegram channels report that a woman planted a backpack with a bomb.
In Russian-occupied Sevastopol, a man died as a result of an explosion of an improvised explosive device planted in a trash can near a residential building.
Telegram channels claim that before the explosion, a woman with a backpack was near the building, likely observing the future victim.
Russian channels write that the incident could be an act of sabotage by Ukrainian special services. There is no official confirmation of this version.
Channel 112, close to Russian law enforcement, reports that a Captain 1st Rank has died, but does not name him.
At the same time, information emerged that the deceased could be Robert Shageyev — the former commander of the Ukrainian submarine "Zaporizhzhia".
Robert Shageyev was 49 years old; he was a former commander of a Ukrainian submarine.
During Russia's annexation of Crimea in March 2014, "Zaporizhzhia" was blocked by Russian military personnel in Sevastopol's Striletska Bay. The crew initially refused to surrender and barricaded themselves inside the submarine. Shageyev himself stated that he would stand for Ukraine until the very end. Later, however, on Shageyev's order, the sailors left the submarine. "Zaporizhzhia" was towed to Southern Bay, where the Ukrainian flag was lowered, and the Russian flag was raised.
After this, Shageyev joined the Russian Navy.
